Hear the story from the person who was there from the start
Elaine’s story is a unique insight into the psychology of the two victims who crossed paths with the psychopathic personality known as Albert Johnson Walker.
There is so much information available online about Albert Walker who has become known as “The Rolex Killer.”
Two books have been written by Canadian journalists who covered the story in late 1996 up until the famous trial at Exeter Crown Court during June/July 1998.
Barbara Walker, the former wife of Albert Walker, also wrote and published her story in 2002.
Various television documentaries have been produced detailing the story, and exploring the forensics and the detective work involved in bringing Albert Walker to trial.
These documentaries have become popular over the years since the trial and include a documentary detailing the crime called “Interpol Investigates – Body Double” (made by National Geographic) as well as a Forensic Files episode entitled “Time Will Tell” that details Ron Platt’s murder investigation and Albert Walker’s capture and a Crime Scene Investigates documentary showing compelling forensic evidence.
Film director Harry Hook, who directed the first two series of the television drama “Silent Witness” in 1996, attended the Albert Walker trial after becoming interested in the story reported in the media. He ultimately directed the television crime drama “The Many Lives of Albert Walker” in 2002 based on the story.
The latest retelling – from the victim’s girlfriend
A new documentary from Lambent Productions is due to be aired on Channel 5 during 2023. Entitled, "The Chameleon: The Killing of Ronald Platt" it tells the story of Albert Walker, who at one time was Canada’s most wanted man and fourth on Interpol’s list of wanted criminals.
The documentary highlights the experience for Elaine who had been the long-time girlfriend of the victim Ron Platt.
Elaine was almost a victim – find out how
In this latest documentary, Elaine, along with the detectives who were working on the case between 1996 - 1998 tell the story of how Albert Walker was able to manipulate those around him as well as demonstrate the traumatic experience it has been for her.
Elaine, who was Ron’s partner for 13 years, is now at a time in her life where she can devote time to writing her story. In her writing she writes the truth from her perspective and her story shows how easily one can fall victim to someone like Albert Walker.
Elaine’s story starts during late October 1996 when she learns that her ex-boyfriend Ron’s body has been found. She is racked with guilt, horror and suspicion. Her story begins with a tragic account of how she discovers the truth of what happened to him.
She takes the reader through her personal journey, from the initial suspicion when she believed the police thought Ron’s death was caused by suicide or accident, known as “death by misadventure”. What transpires is a chilling tale of her and Ron’s betrayal by someone they believed was a friend, who had been a lay preacher and philanthropist. This story involves identity fraud, money laundering and the ultimate crime of first-degree murder.
Elaine’s story is a fascinating narrative showing Ron’s nostalgia for and love of Canada and the Canadian people as well as his passion for his cherished Rolex watch. There are many ironies in Elaine’s story, from the fact that Ron’s life was cut short by a Canadian along with the knowledge that it was his beloved watch that ultimately caught his killer.
A thrilling yet profoundly moving story – a new take on true crime
Her writing is profoundly moving, and she believes that by writing her story in her own voice it will enable her and others to make sense of how Albert Walker was able to walk into her life and promise her a golden opportunity, and ultimately turn her into another one of his many victims.
By telling her story, Elaine endeavours to come to terms with and understand her trauma and Walker’s betrayal as well as explore the issue of trust and learning first hand that evil is often cleverly disguised. This true story is not only unbelievable and tragic, but one of courage, hope and, ultimately, triumph over evil.
